I took the #2 Seventh Avenue line from Penn Station south all the way to the Beverl(e)y Road station, which leaves you at Beverley and Nostrand (which takes the place of East 30th Street down here). EAST FLATBUSH, N.Y. (WABC) - The shooting that left two dead and four injured outside a Brooklyn church Monday night stemmed from a decades-old dispute between two of the shot men, police said. It is now a largely West-Indian neighborhood, and is the home of Brooklyn College, one of the most beautiful campuses in the area. In the very center is the 18th Century Dutch Reformed Church at the corner of Flatbush and Church Avenues, and its original school house dating to 1787 and originally called Erasmus Hall.

By historical town[edit]

The original Dutch settlement of what is now Brooklyn consisted of six towns with clearly defined borders. These later became English settlements, and were consolidated over time until the entirety of Kings County was the unified City of Brooklyn. The towns were, clockwise from the north: Bushwick, Brooklyn, Flatlands, Gravesend, New Utrecht, with Flatbush in the middle. The modern neighborhoods bearing these names are located roughly in the center of each of these original towns. Certain portions of the original six towns were also independent municipalities for a time, before being reabsorbed.

Following an 1894 referendum, the entire consolidated City of Brooklyn became a borough of New York City in 1898.
